Who knew James Jones would become a usable commodity in Fantasy Football?!

Not the Raiders, nor the Giants.

Both of those teams could have had him before the season started and both passed. Fortunately for Jones, the Packers remembered what he could do and they brought him in. Four games later and he sits as a top-10 Fantasy receiver with 53 points in a standard league, more than Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders ... and one point more than Randall Cobb.

Pretty good numbers for a dude nobody drafted.

Funny thing is, no one's buying Jones as a guy who can keep this up for 16 games. He's 31, he probably runs a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash and is considered to be touchdown-dependent, meaning if he doesn't score he's a dud for your Fantasy team. Never mind the fact he has 98 yards or a touchdown in each of his four games this season. Truth is, he's a receiver who plays pretty much every single down for the Green Bay Packers, and that's all the "talent" he needs.

Is Jones a sell-high candidate based on his hot start, or are smart owners swiping up Jones at a discount because "he's James Jones?" We scoured Twitter for some possible trades involving Jones -- here's a good assortment of who people are considering for him.

James Jones, Dez Bryant and Carlos Hyde for Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Davante Adams: You'll see blockbuster trades and you'll see deals involving injured guys, but rarely are the two intertwined like this. Also, the side with the Steelers guys rules the deal, if only because once Roethlisberger comes back, Brown will bounce back too. But isn't it interesting how Jones is thought so highly of that he's a part of a big deal like this?

James Jones and Matt Forte for A.J. Green: PPR league or not, the side giving up Forte is paying up too much for Green, and that's even with Jones involved in the deal. Not sure why anyone would take just Green for Forte and Jones. Why not ask for a running back with Green?

James Jones and Latavius Murray for Jeremy Hill and Emmanuel Sanders: It's close, but in a standard league the Hill/Sanders side is the better side. But again, look at how highly Jones is valued to where he's a key figure in this deal involving three top-40 picks from Draft Day.

James Jones for Carlos Hyde: Hyde has absolutely stunk over his last three games, but I'd still rather have him than Jones in a standard-scoring league. Honestly, it's because Hyde is still a start-worthy running back. Jones is a start-worthy receiver, but it's tough to find running backs you can buy into compared to receivers. Obviously the stats bear out a totally different picture -- Jones in a landslide -- but Hyde's role at a scarce position keeps his value afloat.

James Jones for Devonta Freeman: It's easy to be optimistic about Freeman after his last two games. Maybe the time's right to sell high on Freeman -- but this isn't selling high at all. Getting Freeman for Jones is a no-brainer. James Jones for Dez Bryant: Now this one's interesting. Bryant is reportedly set to return by Week 7, but there's no guarantee he'll be the same player as before suffering his significant foot injury. His quarterback situation definitely won't be the same as when he left and probably won't return to normal until Week 11 at the earliest. Jones, meanwhile, is healthy and playing with a great quarterback. We know what we have with him. It's close to being dead-even, but Jones is more appealing.

What are the Trade Values? The chart is designed to help guide you in making fair trades in your standard-scoring or PPR leagues. The values assigned to the players below are a long-term measurement of their Fantasy value. By adding two players' values you could determine what one player you should be able to get in return. This list should also work as a "Rest of Season" rankings. Also, any player not on the chart should be considered valued at no more than three points.

Week 5 Fantasy Football Trade Values (2024)

FAQs

How to determine fantasy football trade value? ›

The trade calculator values are determined using a consensus ranking from our panel of experts at PFN. Each analyst ranks all of the players individually, and then we take an average. From there, each player is given a value based on where they fall in the consensus ranking.

Are there trades in fantasy football? ›

You can also view them using the "Trades" button on the TEAM page of the NFL Fantasy Football app. Select "View Trade" on the MY TEAM page and then the "Cancel Trade" button in order to withdraw a trade offer before it is accepted. This can also be done using the "Trades" button in the app as well.

What is overall trade value fantasy? ›

Traditionally, it's a table that separates fantasy players by position (QB/WR/RB/TE/draft picks) and assigns each a “trade value.” At its core, the “trade value” assigned should indicate a player's future potential and account for his past.

How do you win a fantasy trade? ›

Seek logical trading partners. If you have too many RBs and are thin at WR, look for the inverse. If you both win the trade, then everyone else loses and that's still a win. The ultimate goal might be to bamboozle your opponent, but that's not nearly as likely an outcome as making a mutually beneficial trade.

How do you calculate fantasy value? ›

For example, if a player has a salary of $10,000 and we project them to score 25 points, their value would be: (25/10,000)*1,000 = 2.5x value. The higher the player's value the better.

How do you structure a fantasy football trade? ›

The Trade Secret

You need to approach your league-mates with a giving mentality. Research their team and identify which positions they need to improve most. First, start your trade talks by acknowledging their strong abilities as a fantasy player.

What is the max trades in fantasy football? ›

No limit to the number of trades a team can make. Limited - A specific number of transactions is selected (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20). Once that number of accepted & processed trades has been reached, the team manager will not be allowed to propose or accept any more trades.

How does fantasy trade analyzer work? ›

The Fantasy Trade Analyzer functions essentially as a trade evaluator for player comparisons. It uses projections for scoring and rankings for the remainder of the season to calculate trade value in both redraft and dynasty formats.

How do you handle unfair trades in fantasy football? ›

NOTE: Standard League members are expected to veto/protest any and all unfair or collusive trades throughout the season. At least 4 team manager's votes are required in protest for a trade to be denied in a Standard League.

Should you vote on trades in fantasy football? ›

Fantasy etiquette generally favors voting against a trade only in the case of collusion or intentional sabotage, rather than voting on the basis of whether a trade seems "fair".

How to quantify the value of your fantasy football draft picks? ›

The startup pick value is a function of the corresponding fantasy player. These valuations start with a player's baseline, a weighted average of this year's projection, and their last two seasons. Then we use 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year fantasy forecasted output.

How does the trade analyzer work in fantasy football? ›

But it's not just tallying up player value on each side. The trade analyzer will measure the trade's impact for each team in the coming week AND for the rest of the season, based on actual fantasy football projections. So you can see EXACTLY how much you'd get out of this move.

How do I check my trade offers in fantasy football? ›

Accepting a Trade on the Web
  1. Navigate to your team's home page.
  2. Pending trade offers should appear in a gray box in the middle of your screen.
  3. Click "review trade"
  4. Accept or decline the trade from this screen.

How do you calculate luck in fantasy football? ›

Multiplying the weekly probability of defeating the average team by the number of games played should return an expected win value, which would be compared to a team's actual number of wins to create a number of wins by which a team is "lucky" or "unlucky."
